Effect of Food Sources on Growth of Ruditapes philippinarum

摘  要: Sufficient high‐quality microalgae are required for indoor nursery of juvenile Ruditapes philippinarum. However, culturing numerous microalgae to support clam feeding is a heavy burden on many hatcheries. Nannochloropsis sp. can be produced on a large scale at low cost, but its dietary usefulness for juvenile bivalves is less than that of other algae. Yamasaki et al. (2018) examined the effect of AHs on Nannochloropsis sp. as a clam diet. The average shell length in the groups given AHs (4 mg • L-1) along with Nannochloropsis sp. (30 × 104cells• mL-1
) was significantly greater than that in the groups given C. neogracile and Nannochloropsis sp. alone (P ≪ 0.05). Hence, the enhanced dietary effect of a combination of Nannochloropsis sp. and AHs will help to shorten the rearing time of R. philippinarum and to provide a stable supply of algal diet Yin et al. (2019) explored the effects of detritus from the macroalgae Ulva pertusa, Chondrus ocellatus and Undaria pinnatifida on the growth and composition of R. philippinarum. The green microalga Tetraselmis cordiformis served as comparative diet. Results revealed that the clams fed with Undaria + Tetraselmis had the highest content of essential amino acids and proteins. The relative percentages of EPA and DHA in clams fed with Undaria higher than those fed with Tetraselmis. The diets containing single Undaria or mixed Undaria + Tetraselmis produced Manila clams with nutritional advantages in terms of essential amino acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Thus, the detritus of macroalgae, especially Undaria, is an appropriate substitute diet, at least partially, for culture of nutrition‐improved R. philippinarum.
