Personal statement
In my previous study, I focused on the neurodegenerative diseases (Parkinson's disease and dyskinesia) and pubertal development. First, in the cellular and animal models of Parkinson's disease, we showed that the prevention of carnosic acid from rosemary against the neurotoxicity of 6-hydroxydopamine through the activation of pi class of glutathione S-transferase and antioxidant enzymes. Moreover, the cytoprotective of carnosic acid is related to the enhancement of autophagy, ubiquitin-proteasome system, mitochondrial biogenesis, and mitochondrial dynamics by parkin, an E3 ubiquitin ligase. Second, carnosic acid ameliorated the development of levodopa-induced dyskinesia via regulating the dopamine D1-receptor signaling and prevents levodopa-induced apoptotic cell death through modulating the ERK1/2-c-Jun and inducing the parkin. Third, aspartame, a non-nutritive sweetener, delayed puberty onset in female offspring rats and girls. Particularly, aspartame-fed female offspring delayed pubertal onset through the dysregulation of hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis and gut microbiota composition.
Current projects:
In the future study, our lab will focus on the mechanisms of marine natural products on the neuroprotection, neuroinflammation inhibition, gut microbiota composition, and gut-brain axis in MPP+-treated SH-SY5Y neuronal cells and HMC3 microglial cells as well as MPTP-treated rats.
