To investigate the effects of resveratrol and resveratrol genetically modified rice in atopic dermatitis symptoms

摘  要: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, pruritic inflammatory skin disorder with a complex etiology. Over 20 kinds of steroid, tacrolimus ointments and cyclosporine capsule are usually recommended for the treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD) patients. However, several side effects sometimes disturb the extensive use of these agents for the treatment of AD patients. The purpose of this study is to explore whether resveratrol and resveratrol-enriched rice (RR) could be a new treatment for AD patients. In first report, they were induced in 30 BALB/c mice by topical application of 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB) prior to treatment with 0 mg/kg, 5 mg/kg, or 25 mg/kg resveratrol. It revealed that resveratrol ameliorated the onset of AD-like skin lesions and significantly improved the DNCB induced dermal destruction in mice. In addition, resveratrol reduced the levels of the above cytokines. It also downregulated the expression of the kallikrein 7 (KLK7), and upregulated the expression of several proteins, such as filaggrin (FLG), envoplakin (EVPL), and transglutaminase (TG). In second report, they used dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB)-induced NC/Nga mice and an in vitro 3D skin model to evaluate the effect of RR on pruritic skin inflammation in atopic dermatitis (AD)-like skin lesions. It revealed that RR significantly reduced scratching frequency, decreased the dermatitis severity and trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) and improved skin hydration in DNCB-induced NC/Nga mice. RR also significantly decreased serum IL-31 and IgE levels and suppressed the production of IL-6 in human keratinocytes and the 3D skin model. These two study indicates that resveratrol and it’s genetically modified rice can serve as a potential alternative therapy for chronic skin inflammatory diseases such as AD.
