Probiotic prevents environment-induced allergic asthma in a murine model

摘  要: Allergies are immune-mediated disorders primarily caused by an IgE-dependent immunological reaction to an allergen (an innocuous environmental antigen). Depending on the allergen contact site, different clinical manifestations. Asthma is one such allergic disease, and it is defined as an allergen mediated airway inflammatory disease, and among the most common affliction in the world, characterized by a shift toward local and systemic T helper 2 (Th2) responses. This typically results in systemic allergic sensitization, reflected by an increase in immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels, and Th2‐type eosinophilic airway inflammation. In patients with severe allergic asthma, airway hyper reactivity (AHR), mucus
hypersecretion, and compromised airway function lead to an impaired quality of life and high socioeconomic costs. Probiotic applications have been shown to impact effector and regulatory T-cell responses in airway disease, resulting in the restoration of the Th1/Th2 immune balance, and/or stimulation of regulatory cytokine production and the regulatory T-cell (Treg) subset. This typically leads to a reduction in lung Th2
inflammatory cytokine levels (eg, IL-5 and IL-13) and the attenuation of AHR, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host.
