Effect of Cultivation Conditions on Growth of Chlorella sorokiniana

Chlorella sorokiniana (C. sorokiniana), a type of green microalgae, features broad prospects for applications in such fields as health foods, biodiesel and so on. Taghavijeloudar et al. (2019) chose a newly isolated strain Chlorella sorokiniana pa.91 to reseach the optical condition at various temperatures and light intensities in BG-11 medium. To evaluate the capability of C. sorokiniana pa.91 in CO2 bio-fixation, the microalgae was cultivated in a flat-plate photobioreactor, maximum biomass concentration of 3.21 g L−1 was achieved after eight days under the optimized condition.C. sorokiniana pa.91 has a high capacity of CO2 bio-fixation (0.59 mg L−1d−1 ), CO2 removal efficiency (35.6%), NH4+removal efficiency (74%), NO3− removal efficiency(93%) and PO43− 26 removal efficiency (83%) after eight days of cultivation in the photobioreactor. Lizzul et al. (2018) used the strain Chlorella sorokiniana UTEX 1230 culturing in a 1 L bubble column. The findings show that productivity can be trebled under mixotrophic conditions (from 0.2 g·L −1 ·d −1 to 0.66 g·L −1 ·d −1 ) with the addition of
sodium acetate. The results also indicate that both the growth rate and final yield increase with the cultivation temperature, with most parameters showing an optimum in the range of 30 – 35 ℃. The maximum specific growth rate was found at a surface irradiance between 100–500 µE·m−2·s−1
